The US Geography Olympiad held its 2017 Middle School and Elementary National Championships on Sunday, May 28 at the Hyatt Regency O’Hare in Rosemont, IL. 125 students competed in total (74 7th and 8th graders in the Middle School Division, and 51 6th graders and younger in the Elementary Division) in three separate examinations: the Multiple Choice Exam, the Written Exam, and the Map Exam. Once all the scores were tallied, Kai Waddell of Lux Middle School in Lincoln, Nebraska emerged as the National Champion in the Middle School Division and Siddharth Kamannavar of Stratford School in Sunnyvale, CA emerged as the National Champion in the Elementary Division.
