The US Geography Olympiad and International Geography Bee are pleased to announce that through the end of February 2019, 25 Varsity and 36 JV students had taken the A Set National Qualifying Exam. As we now calculate the National Median Scores earlier in the academic year to give everyone more lead time to prepare to attend the National Championships, we can now announce that the official A Set National Median Scores are 83 for Varsity and 73 for Junior Varsity. Anyone who has scored or who scores higher than these scores on the Exam qualifies for the 2019 US Geography Olympiad National Championships and 2019 International Geography Bee National Championships in their age division. *

The National Median Scores for A Set will not change further based on students who take this version of the USGO / IGB National Qualifying Exam in 2019. Students whose scores were in the top 50% of scores at their Exam site still qualify too, even if they scored less than the National Median Scores. We have also added access to spreadsheets showing all scores by Set (click on the tabs at the bottom of the page for the other age division) on the Results page here, on which the median scores for the A, B, and C Set versions of the National Qualifying Exams are posted.

Best of luck in qualifying for and preparing for the 2019 US Geography Olympiad & International Geography Bee National Championships!

* = Note that all students scoring 75 or higher on any exam automatically qualify for Nationals, even if the median score is higher. As a score of 75 is the qualifying threshold for the International Geography Bee World Championships, we also allow any student scoring 75 or higher to compete at USGO and IGB Nationals. Thus even though the National Median Score for A Set in the Varsity Division is 83, any Varsity student scoring 75 or higher will also qualify for Nationals. Lastly, as always, students taking the exam at an official exam site can qualify if they finish in the top 50% of students taking the exam in their division at that site, regardless of their score.
