The United States Geography Olympiad is getting ready for its third year of geography knowledge competitions throughout the USA! Following fresh on the heals of Team USA’s fantastic performance at the 2014 International Geography Olympiad in Poland, we’re getting set for our biggest and best year yet. This year will see a number of important changes to USGO including the debut of our National Qualifying Quiz Tournaments around the country, which present an alternate way of qualifying to the National Qualifying Exams. We’ll also be launching a separate Middle School Division for 7th and 8th grade students, and an Elementary Division for students in 6th grade and younger. Those Divisions will each have a National Qualifying Exam held in conjunction with the Regional Tournaments of The National History Bee, and the Exams, in fact, are free for students who are also competing in the History Bee. Junior and Middle School students will also have their own separate National Championships in Louisville, KY in May, though they are welcome to compete in the Junior Varsity division too, if they want an extra challenge. Additionally, we’re having an expanding National Championships at the high school level, with an additional quiz bowl round, and a two-stage Exam that draws on both the AP Human Geography curriculum and the International Geography Olympiad curriculum.
More information will be posted here soon, and registration will open for the Quiz Tournaments and the Qualifying Exams by mid-October. For more information, contact info@geographyolympiad.com Good luck throughout the 2014-15 season!
